In the next of our Q&As with our fantastic trainee cohort, we are delighted to introduce you to Alibek Myrzaguzhin, who joined us initially as a paralegal and then was accepted on our trainee programme. We sat down with Alibek to ask him a few questions about trainee life at Cleveland & Co.

What made you want to enter the Law profession?

My decision to pursue law was influenced by the fact that I have always thought it to be a tough and interesting field. I like the fact that the Law profession offers endless complex problems to solve and demands a wide variety of skills. Since the very first day I entered the legal field, I have discovered that I enjoy the work, especially when I have the chance to work in a team, have conversations with clients, and exercise critical thinking.

What does a typical day at C&Co look like for a trainee?

One of the things I appreciate about working at C&Co is that there is no such thing as a regular day. You never know in the morning what will happen by the end of the day. For instance, a client might phone and request that you review fund investment documentation right away.

How much responsibility are you given at C&Co?

I have been given a lot of responsibility, challenges, and chances to push myself since day one, yet I never felt like I was doing it alone. I get the chance to take the lead on client calls and am relied upon to finish difficult assignments on time and to a high standard. This helped me get practical experience, gain perspective on the realities of practise, and establish a rapport with clients.

What are the best bits about working at C&Co?

A crucial component of both personal and professional development at C&Co is its supportive atmosphere. I feel that my peers and managers are always there to answer my questions and advise me on the next step to take.

The fact that our team is so varied and includes members from a variety of backgrounds is another thing I truly appreciate. As a result, I can always learn new things and share my knowledge with my coworkers.

Tell us something people might not expect about you or a fun fact?

I dream of seeing the Great Wall of China.

If you didn’t choose law, what other career path might you have chosen?

I might have explored becoming an IT specialist if I hadn’t chosen to study law.
